데이터로부터의 색은 실상에서 경험되어지는 데이터의 부정확성, 모호함에 대해 문제 의식을 갖고, 가설을 세우고, 검증하여 얻어진 결론과 그 과정을 조형적 언어인 '색', 오브제 등으로 표현한 작품입니다. 작가는 데이터의 질, 그에 대응되는 필요한 기술과 자본에 있어서의 한계를 고려했을 때, 경험되어지는 데이터의 부정확함, 모호성을 주목하고 데이터를 이해하는 방식과 태도를 고민하고 있습니다. 또한 작가는 과학기술에 대한 비합리적인 믿음과 함게, '사회 전반에 만연한 정량화된 사고'를 반영하는 색에 주목합니다. 모니터 상에서 데이터에 따라 변화하는 아름다운 색을 보면서 우리는 픽셀하나에 담긴 도시 전체의 상태를 반영하는 색 데이터를 어떻게 받아들여야 하는가를 잊은 채, 색 변화의 현란함, 그 아름다움과 과학기술을 동일시 합니다. 이러한 문제의식과 함께 작가는 "데이터의 부정확함, 모호함은 데이터 생산자의 수용자 사이에서 데이터를 다루는 단위 크기의 차이에 의해 발생된다"는 가설을 세우고 실험을 진행합니다. 3시간씩, 25000m단위로 스크린에 보여지는 인터넷 공공기온 데이터를 대조군으로, 작가가 직접 센서로 수집한 10초의 20m 단위로 보여지는 온도 데이터를 실험군으로 하여 각각의 단위에 따른 공공기온데이터와 개인이 체감하는 온도 데이터를 비교해보며 그 차이 여부정도에 대해 알아봅니다. 실험을 통해 데이터의 모호함과 부정확함의 근본적인 원인을 생각해보고 데이터를 이해하는데 있어, 우리의 태도를 고민해 봅니다. 아울러 작가는 공공과 개인, 수직과 수평적 처리방법과 함께 중앙정부 기관, 전문가들로 구성된 몇몇 기관에서 생산, 처리하는 데이터를 수동적으로 받들이는 것보다는 개인이 주체성을 가지고 생산, 이해하는 방식을 제안합니다.
